The Renovation Bonus is the most widely used tax incentive for construction work in Italy. Here's how it works in 2026 and how you can benefit for your renovation in Rome.
What Is the 2026 Renovation Bonus
The Renovation Bonus provides a 50% IRPEF deduction on expenses for extraordinary maintenance, restoration, and renovation work. The deduction is spread over 10 equal annual installments, with a maximum spending cap of €96,000 per property unit.
Which Works Are Eligible
The following are deductible: bathroom renovation, replacement of electrical and plumbing systems, floor renovation, partition demolition and reconstruction, window replacement, elevator installation, energy-saving measures, and much more. Ordinary maintenance on individual residential units is not eligible.
Required Documents
To benefit from the bonus you need: ASL notification (if required), traceable payments via specific bank transfer with renovation reference, contractor invoices, and system compliance declarations. It is essential to keep all documentation for at least 15 years.
The Specific Bank Transfer
Payment must be made via a specific renovation bank transfer. The transfer must contain: payment reason with legal reference, tax code of the deduction beneficiary, and tax code or VAT number of the contractor.
